The Business Car of the Year 2023 was announced last week during the AM Driving Business Awards. No fewer than nine EVs made the top 10 — something that has never happened before.
The electric Škoda ENYAQ iV won the award against competitors from its own company, such as the Volkswagen ID.4, Škoda KODIAQ, and the Audi Q4. But it also outperformed other hugely popular models, including the Volvo XC40, BMW IX3, Ford Mustang MACH-E, Polestar 2, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6.
At the heart of society
Pravin Chaturi, Partnerships Director at ALD Automotive was on the jury and says that this year was one of the toughest elections ever. "The Škoda ENYAQ achieved Best Newcomer 2022 last year, so the expert jury had already predicted a bright future for ENYAQ. But it was still difficult to choose as a result of the nomination of immensely popular models such as the Volvo XC40 and the Ford MACH-E. The choice fell on Škoda because the make attracts both private buyers and lease car drivers by supplying good quality at an affordable price. This make of car is at the heart of society. You see it pass by on almost every street."
Complete package a deciding factor
The jury report also states that they are particularly pleased with the complete package the car has to offer. The design and interior stand out for their high level of finish. The ENYAQ is on the same MEB platform as the Volkswagen ID.4, but Škoda still delivers a superior product, according to the jury. "You get the Škoda signature and the quality of the Volkswagen Group in a car that is slightly larger, more affordable and a more complete package than its competitors."
